2002 Honda Odyssey Recall
Recalls are issued when a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment does
not comply with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard or when there is a safety-related
defect in the vehicle or equipment. These recalls are issued by the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to the car manufacturers in order to avoid
further problems for their future car manufactures. These are also issued to prevent
major accidents from happening because of defective vehicle equipments.

The Honda Odyssey had a share of recalls issued by the NHTSA. For 2002, the Honda
Odyssey had two, involving its automatic transmission and the V6 engine. The recall
reports that a heat build-up between gears in the automatic transmission may lead
to gear tooth clipping or gear breakage. This type of transmission failure can
lead to transmission lock-up which might eventually lead to a crush.
The other recall is about the problem with the V6 engine. The recall specifies
a misaligned timing belt tensioner pulley which often gets into contact with a
bolt on the cylinder head. With constant contact, the belt would eventually be
damaged and fail, causing the engine to stall and increase the risk of a crash.
For a more detailed report of these problems, you may visit the official website
of the NHTSA. You can also find there recalls for other model years of the Honda
Odyssey. Other reports that may be found on the NHTSA website are service bulletins
and consumer complaints.
